Back to 90s Liverpool for Sky Documentaries

ATV Today’s Best on the Box pick for Thursday, July 10.

The second episode in this three part series continues tonight on Sky Documentaries.

When ecstasy first arrived in Liverpool in the late 1980s, it spawned a cultural revolution – and a new breed of criminal quickly saw that millions of pounds could be made. By 1991 ecstasy and clubbing had gone mainstream in Liverpool.

The effects of this saw the city experience a boom from a new night-time economy with dozens of superclubs like Cream attracting people from all over Britain and abroad.

But, as ecstasy and the clubs became a multimillion-pound business, criminal groups began to fight over territory. Unbeknownst to blissed-out clubbers, their dealers, the bouncers and their bosses were locked in violent battles that descended into stabbings, shootings and even fire-bombings.
