Denise Van Outen recalls Christmas Day past that leaves her cold

Hopefully, your Christmas Day hasn’t been like Denise’s a few years ago…

Denise Van Outen has revealed the Christmas Day blunder that left she and beau, Eddie Boxshall blushing at Christmas Dinner – and worryingly it’s one any of us could easily make on 25th December.

Speaking to mark the launch of One4all Gift Cards’ Making Christmas Special campaign, she reveals how a simple blunder with crockery left her and boyfriend, Boxshall, with 14 expectant diners and an unimpressed mum on Christmas Day.

Van Outen, who just revealed she is due to appear in Celebrity Circle in 2021, said:

“So about two years ago, we invited all the family over for Christmas lunch. There was about 14 of us in total… between myself and Eddie [we] cooked all the meal, plated everything up, because there was a lot of people there, we thought we’d just warm everything up in the microwave.

“And as we got to the microwave…Eddie said, ‘can you put those plates in the microwave?’ Looked at the bottom. ‘Not to be used in a microwave’. So we were suddenly left with all this food for 14 people. And we had no plates. We just had to improvise. My mum killed me!”

Given that a survey by One4all Gift Cards revealed Christmas dinner is British adults’ favourite Christmas moment, it’s a mistake many won’t want to be making, to avoid facing their relatives’ wraths.

The Dancing On Ice 2021 star also revealed her secret to the perfect family tree.

“In our family, it’s tradition that we do the tree altogether and put all the decorations on and we just enjoy the moment listening to Christmas songs. And what I absolutely love is most of the decorations on our family tree date back for years. One of them is from when I was a kid.

“It was a decoration that I made at school, I think when I was seven out of papier-mache. And now we’ve kept the tradition going. My daughter Betsy’s made her own Christmas decorations as well. So when we look at our tree, it’s full of family memories. It’s the best.”
