Don Gilet reprises Lucas role for EastEnders

The murderer is heading back to Walford.

EastEnders has been the worst on-the-night performing ratings-wise since the soaps went back into their usual schedules following the Covid-19 production break. ‘Enders has suffered more than its ITV counterparts due to being shoved around the schedules and with only 20-or-so minute episodes the start time varies from its traditional 7.30 pm or 8 pm slots.

The reprisal of the controversial character may give the saga the boost it needs. Ten years ago the character of preacher Lucas Johnson caused outrage among many Christians when he committed a murder while quoting the Bible.

During his time in Albert Square, he murdered his ex-wife Trina (Sharon Duncan Brewster) and Owen Turner (Lee Ross), the ex-husband of Lucas’ then-wife Denise (Diane Parish).

It is Denise that The Sun notes will draw Lucas back into the plots. Previously he framed her as the murderer of his victims, then went on to faking her suicide in order to keep her hostage in a grotty basement a couple of weeks until she managed to escape and reveal the truth.

Lucas was last seen on the show in 2016 trying to escape from prison.

“I’m thrilled and honoured to be asked to breathe life once again into such a complex, controversial and divisive character but, most importantly, to have another opportunity to work alongside one of the UK’s finest actors, Diane Parish. I feel blessed.” – Don Gilet quoted by The Sun

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8.05 pm and Tuesday and Thursdays at 7.35 pm.
